is AKC Foundation Stock? What is AKC Foundation Stock?Early in 1973, the American Kennel Club (AKC) recognized the Akita and allowed it to compete in regular conformation classes. Prior to AKC recognition, Akita registrations in the U.S. were processed and maintained by the Akita Club of America, Inc. (ACA), who registered Japanese imports and litters/individuals born in the U.S. since 1957. During AKC's Akita Foundation-Stock Registration period (which ended February 28, 1974), Akita owners filed applications with the ACA Registry to transfer their dogs' registration to AKC. Since then, AKC has been the sole registering body for Akitas in the U.S. AKC Foundation Stock comprises all those imported and American-born Akitas registered in this manner with AKC.
