‘Kuro’ was a magnificent, marvelously
well-tempered Akita with striking presence, flawless
movement, and a superb head. He regularly won BOB and/or
BIM in Southern California in the late ’60s and early
’70s.
Ch Wanchan’s Akagumo, the first BIS
Akita, inherited his superior Akita qualities from his
incomparable sire, Akita Tani’s Kuroyama.
‘Kuro’ was the first Akita I ever
saw and the dog that led me to realize the Akita was
the only breed for me.

In the pictures
that follow, Kuroyama was only 12 months old, 'Teru'
(our first Akita) 3 months. At that time, 'Kuro' was
owned by Pete and Maggie Lagus.

This was my favorite shot in this series.
